The IUPAC Prof. Jiang Novel Materials Youth Prize is presented every two years on the occasion of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry – International Conference on Novel Materials and their Synthesis (IUPAC NMS). The NMS 2013 will be held in Shanghai, China, during 17-22 October, 2013.

Every time the prize is awarded to two scientists under 40 years of age whose research has had a major impact on novel chemical materials including their characterization, performance and/or application. The winners for this Prize in 2011 are Prof. Zhibo Li and Prof. Jr-Hau He.

Each winner will be awarded USD 1,000 plus travel (economic class) and hotel accommodation expenses to attend NMS 2013, where he/she will present a keynote lecture.

The purpose of this prize is to promote international collaboration and understanding between developed and developing countries. The prize is given on the basis of scientific merit for independent research dealing with novel materials in the broadest context of fine chemicals, polymers, energy storage and conversion, nano materials and the other chemicals. Candidates must be not above 40 years of age as of January 1, 2013 in which the prize is awarded, should be available to present a keynote lecture at NMS 2013 and should also have an academic and/or professional experience of at least two countries, one developed country for at least half a year and one developing country for at least half a year.

Application materials should include the following information:

  •  Applicant’s name and business address
  •  Applicant’s biographical sketch of the applicant including education (college or university, location, major field, degree, year awarded) and work (position, organization, duties, dates) experience
  •  Applicant’s list of publications including papers, patents, unpublished reports, papers presented at meetings (please include a list of those you deem pertinent)
  •  Applicant’s honors, awards and other deserved supporting information
  •  Scientific achievements for which the applicant is nominated for this award
  •  One recommendation letter from one developed country where the applicant studied (at least graduate level) or worked for at least 6 months
  •  One recommendation letter from one developing country where the applicant studied (at least graduate level) or worked for at least 6 months
